So I watched the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony last night. (And by watched I mean I missed the first few minutes of it and fell asleep during the entrance of all those countries, thus missing the actual torch lighting and defeating the purpose of me watching it in the first place. But you know.)
Can't really help but "x_____x" at the number of performers there were! I mean, I know China has the largest population and all, but rubbing it in much?! ..From the seats in the stadium they must have looked like a million little maggots wriggling around in rainbows. (Must look for a better description, Vick.) Still, awesome how they managed to make it look all ordered and comprehendable even with THAT MANY PEOPLE.
And the giant scrolll! Nuff said. :D
However I have to admit that some parts were questionable. Men in flouro green suits?! At least give em cool hats! D: The dove they made though, was amazing. It even flies! I guess the representation of 'dove of peace flying over the world on the scroll' seemed a bit forced, but nevertheless I doved it. Heheh.
To tell the truth when I first thought of China I thought of low-budget cheapy corny SFX. But as far as I remember all the performances were seamless and high-techy. Of course, in the spirit of China some parts still looked overdone and tacky. Like the dancing men and women welcoming the countries and marking a path around the stadium. Unnecessary mah. We have paint for that. How tiring would it have been to jump around on the spot while all 204 countries marched past?!
One thing that annoyed me was when the children were painting on the giant scroll, and chanting about the dangers of global warming, pollution etc. Then all the birdies come back because of China's efforts to be more environmentally friendly. EXCUSE ME? CHINA TOPS THE FREAKING CARBON POLLUTION RANKINGS! What the hell were they trying to make themselves out to be?! Hypocrites.
Btw, I just looked up (cause I missed the end of the ceremony :3) what that painting looked like in the end with the footprints. Wheeeee! Pretty! :D
Overall I think the opening ceremony was pretty good in terms of entertainment value. I wish I hadn't missed the end of it. I hear the torch relay and lighting the flame was hot ;D.
This entry probably wouldn't have have much sense to leeks who didn't watch the opening ceremony, or dislike long paragraphs so skipped parts. For that I apologise for not putting in much description and failing to arrange my thoughts in logical order.
